Does it cost money to participate?
Participation is completely free. All you need is to sign up for a free Highnote and Native Instruments’ account.
How many tracks can I submit?
Each participant can submit one entry each.
Can my track be instrumental?
Yes, your track just needs to address the theme of the challenge you’re submitting for.
How long does my track need to be?
Tracks should be at least 1 minute in length.
Do I have to use ONLY the provided ingredients?
No, but you must include some form of each. This can be chopped, flipped, distorted, or other creative ways to incorporate each.
Why do I need a Highnote and Native Instruments account?
Both Highnote and Native Instruments are providing the tools necessary for you to produce and submit your entry. Highnote is hosting the competition and will let you participate in the monthly challenges. Native Instruments is providing the free ingredients for each competition, accessible via Komplete Start.
How does the judging work?
Three winners will be selected total:
1 - Highnote and Native Instruments staff pick
1 - Community Choice, voted on by your fellow challenge participants
1 - Guest judge’s choice
Factors that will be considered include but are not limited to:
Originality and creativity of the track
Musical production quality
Organic incorporation of the audio sample, theme, Native Instruments plugin
How do I use Ethereal Earth?
To run Ethereal Earth, you’ll need Kontakt, Native Instruments' flagship sampling platform. If you don’t have Kontakt 7, you can use Kontakt 7 Player, which is available for free through Native Access. Follow this guide to set up Kontakt in your DAW.
I’m having trouble downloading the ingredients
The first ingredient, a suspenseful foley loop with its stems, is available for download directly from the Highnote space.
The second ingredient, Ethereal Earth (included in the free Komplete Start bundle), can be downloaded from the Native Instruments website. You’ll need the Native Access app to install it. If you run into any issues, check out the help center for assistance.
